A guide to Wilderness 2021

Wildlings,

It is with extreme pleasure that we welcome you back into the Wilderness. After such an agonising time apart, to say our reunion will be sweet is an understatement. We will gather, and we will dance, right back where we belong in the glorious wilds of Cornbury Park.

Entering the Wilderness

There are, of course, safety measures we need to put in place to protect you. These start with entering the Wilderness. Click here to learn more about the entry requirements to keep you all safe and well. Rest assured that your safety remains our top priority so we will be having extra hand sanitising stations around the site and onsite testing facilities available throughout the weekend.

This year you will receive digital tickets for the event. These will be sent out next week so make sure you check your email or login to your Ticketmaster account to download your tickets before you set off for the festival.

We will be releasing our brand new Wilderness 2021 app very soon which will include the full festival schedule including all programme timings so you can start to plan your time with us. Keep an eye on our socials or join our mailing list to be notified when the app is released.

Another improvement for 2021 is that our bars and food traders will be going cashless. You will be able to use both contactless and Apple Pay at all stalls.

On your marks, get set, GO!

We pride ourselves on the vast scope of our programming that offers something for everyone. You’ll find an all-guns-blazing tour of the arts – from woodland theatre to tomato wrestling via Letters Live. You’ll discover dancefloors alight at the hands of some of the most innovative in the game. There’ll be secret sets and disco dodgeball, Alternative Miss Wilderness and Hip Hop Karaoke. Your tastebuds will be tantalised, your ribs tickled. There’ll be games to play, yoga to stretch at, songs to sing.

Wilderness is a gathering of some of the most incredible artists, musicians, producers, performers, thinkers, teachers, writers, chefs and creators on planet earth – and of course, a union of our wonderful, wondrous Wilderness community.

This year, we are channelling Maximalism, and we invite you to fly your flag high on the breeze, donning your most Maximal persona, vibe and look. After a year of separation, it is high time we celebrate the perfect, hysterical joy of being together and being ourselves.

There are a few things we simply cannot bring back this year. Sadly, there’ll be no horse riding, there are no hot tubs, and there’ll be no sauna. But don’t sweat, we have some stunning new arrivals to thrill, entertain and sate you…

First up, The High Ground – the open-air nightclub we affectionately dubbed Valley Room Two – is making a glorious comeback. Expect cutting-edge electronic music dispatched by some super-fine DJs (soon to be announced) to a high-octane dancefloor. (See you front left).

The Atrium will become a Massive Live Silent Light Rave Disco Show on Friday and Saturday night, from 11pm till late. (Secure your headphones in advance).

Across the festival, we’ve a plethora of exciting new bars – including the Fairground Bar, a beautiful new cocktail bar and of course, the infamous secret late-night piano bar. (If you can find it, you may never leave).

The Wilderness Emporium is back, teeming with the very best designers to score your brand new spangly festival outfit.

Food-wise we are happy to be able to give support to an industry that has been devastated by the pandemic: the traders. We pride ourselves on the vast range of eats and treats to be found, and this year is no exception. Whatever nourishment your buds desire can be sourced here, courtesy of the very finest of food purveyors: be that hot and tasty, fresh and vibrant, sweet and spicy, hearty, healthy, meaty or veggie. (We really do have it all).

The Wilderness Classics – those landmark moments that make the show what it is – will be returning with bells on. The now-famous Wilderness Cricket Match (sign up early on the day to play) will be taking over the green on Saturday and Sunday. Expect hilarity and dubious umpiring decisions. The lakes and waterfalls are as fresh as ever and remain perfect for your morning constitutional.

The Wilderness Orchestra (our house band) are one of the show’s most delightful fixtures, and this year will be performing an extra special set called The Wilderness Proms. For the past decade, they’ve paid homage to some of the greatest artists in the world, from Radiohead to Nina Simone, John Williams to Aretha, Amy Winehouse to Bowie and, lest we forget, a side of Disney… This year we’ll explore the best-of from Aphex Twin to The Jungle Book (via Jurassic Park).

Settle in at The Forum, the place to have your opinions shaken and mind blown with a cocktail in your hand.

Cornbury Park itself is undoubtedly the ultimate hero. The unbelievable meadows, lakes and trees have had a year to themselves and couldn’t be more eye-popping.
And, as darkness falls, sequins are shimmering, dancing shoes are back in action, The Valley comes to life…

See you in the fields x
