The Books Tent

with Catrina Davies

When author and musician Catrina met Thomas Headley in the final years of his life, little could she imagine the conversations to follow. In a warm, poignant voice, she documents an oral history of the land Headley knew and the destruction man has wreaked upon it. From his often conflicted relationship with nature and the intrusion of technology, to his final years, paralysed and dependent, we entered a world painstakingly remembered.

Catrina Davies is a critically-acclaimed author and multi-instrumentalist from Land's End, Cornwall. She has released two records, as well as three books: her first book Fearless is a memoir about busking from Norway to Portugal; her second, Homesick: Why I Live in a Shed, went on to be longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize. Once Upon a Raven's Nest, out this year, tells the life story of one farmer facing up to the the climate crisis, and is a beautiful oral history of a vanishing way of life.
