Welcome to Wilderness Season Nine. Your heady dose of high art playtime with a side of low-down dirty dancefloor hijinks. Blazing in for a ninth season with a fresh and progressive multi-arts programme, rich with six vibrant new venues and electrifying new promoters – all with a good chance of streakers.
Bombay Bicycle Club float your boat on Friday, Robyn rings your bell on Saturday and Groove Armada turn your pages on Sunday. Venture down to The Valley’s forest dance floor, and you’ll find dance titan Erol Alkan, Chicago queen of underground house Honey Dijon and bass-happy badass Eats Everything. This is the stuff of dreams.
Enter our four new music stages – The High Ground, The Level, The Jumpyard and The Troubadour.
Raise hands and heartbeats at The High Ground where The Cause have gathered teams from Adonis and Tribes to enthral and hypnotise. Hannah Holland, Grace, Shay, Dom Chung, Voigtmann and Cromby await your delectation and dancefloor devotion.
Set the record straight at The Level as it showcases artistic excellence, innovation and new directions from around the globe. With tunes from Ata Kak of Awesome Tapes from Africa or the Beating Heart crew defining rather than following current trends.
Dig deeper on the dancefloor with Dutty Moonshine at The Jumpyard the all-new creation from Glastonbury’s Shangri-La crew. This is the ultimate feel-good dancefloor with sunshine reggae, swing, brass and bass.
Kick off your shoes and snuggle in at The Troubadour for an acoustic treasure. Music & dance workshops by day. Shindigs, hoedowns and new music discovery by night.
Explore the full-colour spectrum of divine in new arts venue The House of Sublime, complete with Queer Life Drawing, Southbank Centre, Roundhouse and of course, team fabulous in leftfield beauty pageant: Alternative Miss Wilderness.
Join the crowds at The Atrium to witness the outstanding and the extraordinary: Hip Hop Karaoke all-stars rapping into the sun, Ronnie Scott’s, Letters Live, Rambert2 and Giant Bollywood workshops. Submit your song and weep with pure joy as it’s performed for you by a 47-piece orchestra at God’s Jukebox.
This is just the start. Rise early for a wild run. Take a swim in The Lakes. Journey out into the forest to find the secret Woodland Theatre. Flex in mass morning yoga. Radicalize at a debate. Join a cricket match. Chance your arm at Axe Throwing. Wind through the nu-jazz haze with Steam Down or while away the hours at a Long Table Banquet before setting out across the lake on a boat at sunset.
After all, variety is the spice of life. And for four days this August, no one belongs here more than you.
Let the wilderness in…
