Theatrical DJ and queer vintage music curator, Auntie Maureen likes to dig deep, for music, for herstory and for rendering audible the sonic stories of the invisible, the forgotten and the erased.
Queering up DJ sets, they/she has swayed dancefloors at proud events such as Tate Britain’s Queer Britannia, The Wallace’s Look OUT, The Royal Vauxhall Tavern’s rowdy Big Bingo Show hosted by Timberlina, plus at quirky cultural dates for The Freud Museum’s The Minotaur, The Painted Lady & The Egg, Two Temple Place’s Jazz Age exhibition with The Sonic Sensorium, the Museum of London’s Night Museum and The Petrie Museum’s Egyptomania. Auntie M is currently the resident diminutive sound and music selector for the new and improved post-pandemic Big Bingo Show.
Combining LGBTQIA+ historical archival research with performative music curation Auntie Maureen has contributed to the faithful 1930s recreation of The Caravan Club in partnership with The National Trust and the Metropolitan Archives in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act. For Duckie’s Queer History Club project Auntie Maureen was a bawdy town crier performing 18th Century Georgian queer research nuggets. As of summer 2023 Auntie Maureen will be joining the ranks of Queer Tours of London as a salacious Soho tour guide.
Incloodu Festival of Deaf Arts, Barbican’s OpenFest, Culture Mile’s Smithfield150, The Museum of Last Parties night at Museum of London, Wilderness, Camp Bestival & Bestival, Shambala, Latitude, Museum Nacht in Amsterdam, Walthamstow’s Garden Party, the E17 Art Trail, Homotopia’s Homovision and Risen, these festivals have over the years each welcomed Auntie Maureen’s diverse, cross-decade, multi-genre and bespoke contributions.
