Queer Performance and the Future: A Long Table Discussion
What is the relationship of queer performance culture to the future? How can we respond to rising fascism, ecological catastrophe, and racial and economic oppressions? What is the relationship of activism to art making? Holding space to discuss these issues, and other subjects that arise, the Live Art Development Agency (LADA) hosts a Long Table discussion. The Long Table is an ingenious format for discussion, combining theatricality and public engagement, developed by queer performance icon Lois Weaver. The Long Table is a dinner party structured by etiquette, where conversation is the only course. It is at once a stylised appropriation and an open-ended, non-hierarchical format for participation. The (often-feminised) domestic realm here becomes a stage for public thought.
