CANDLE PAINTING

Come to this free drop-in session + spend as much or as little time you feel like spending on painting directly onto a handmade candle – loose, messy, detailed, whatever fits your mood.

You’ll work on a soy wax candle, using a mix of plant-based and water-based paints to build your design. Start with a few colours or go all in – layering, mixing, and figuring it out as you go.

There’s no pressure to get it “right”. Some people plan, others just start painting and see where it leads. Either way, you’ll end up with something that feels personal – a candle you’ve actually made your mark on.

Once finished, your candle will be wrapped up so you can take it back to your tent, gift it, or keep it for later.

Born out of a period of life limbo during 2020, Studio Limbo is the multidisciplinary practice of Winnie Matthews (she/her), a London-based candlemaker exploring tactile processes and material-led design. Working across a range of craft disciplines, including candlemaking, scent exploration, ceramics and painting, Winnie’s work is driven by experimentation, play and curiosity for how materials behave. Her workshops invite participants into this exploratory approach, offering space to test ideas, combine techniques and experience just how therapeutic slowly making something can be.
