Bembe Segue draws on a rich tapestry of influences, ranging from Doug and Jean Carn to the sounds of the Black Jazz and Strata-East labels. Her music fuses Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms with an ever-present hip hop edge. Add touches of 1960s folk and Charles Stepney-style vocal arrangements, and you begin to get a sense of the depth and texture of her soundscapes.

A dedicated vinyl collector since the age of 14, Bembe considers records her true musical education. She is the proud owner of a highly respected and ever-growing vinyl collection that continues to shape her artistic identity.

Bembe played a key role in the development of the West London broken beat scene, collaborating extensively with leading figures such as Orin Walters, Daz-IQ (Bugz In The Attic), Mark de Clive-Lowe, Da Lata, Nicola Conte, Sleepwalker, KJM and Kaidi Tatham. She also appeared on Seiji and G-Force’s album Just Another Number.

Her work, alongside multiple collaborations with I.G Culture and Dego, earned her the title “Queen of Broken Beat.” However, her artistry extends far beyond this genre, reflecting a deeply diverse and expansive musical vision.

She later formed her own 14-piece band, delivering a legendary 2003 performance at the Jazz Cafe of Mother of the Future, which continues to resonate today. The track gained further recognition after Phil Asher began playing a recording from that performance.

Now a seasoned live performer, Bembe Segue has toured globally and continues to captivate audiences with her dynamic presence and genre-defying sound.
