Friedberg
Set time to be announced
Friedberg’s debut album Hardcore Workout Queen is, in the words of frontwoman Anna Friedberg, “like an endless road trip with no destination.” The London/Berlin-based alt‑rock quartet - Anna Friedberg (vocals, guitar, cowbells), Emily Linden (guitar), Cheryl Pinero (bass) and Fifi Dewey (drums) - craft electrifying, hook‑laden songs built for late‑night drives and festival fields. Their sound fuses alt‑pop, psychedelia, dance‑punk and razor‑sharp grooves, expanding on early successes like breakout single “Go Wild” (featured on FIFA 20 and Normal People) and their acclaimed EP Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah.
Austrian-born Anna grew up in the tiny village of Friedberg (the band’s namesake), where she studied classical guitar and formed her first rock band. After uploading her early solo material online—while studying literature and working as a sports journalist—her career surged when a track was picked for a TV advert, eventually leading to a European tour opening for Lenny Kravitz. Two top‑5 solo albums in Austria followed, before Anna decided to leave her solo persona behind in search of a collaborative band project.
The pieces of Friedberg fell into place effortlessly: Emily and Fifi arrived via recommendation, Cheryl was discovered in a wine bar, and their first rehearsal clicked instantly. Two weeks later they played their debut show at London’s The Spice of Life, and Anna knew she’d found her musical home. Known for their magnetic live energy, Friedberg have since toured with Hot Chip and built a reputation for wild, percussion‑driven performances (cowbells included).
Hardcore Workout Queen captures that spirit in full. From the euphoric title track to angular lead single “Hello”, the album draws inspiration from ESG’s grooves, LCD Soundsystem’s dance‑rock, surrealist cinema, and the band’s international writing sessions. The result is a bold, exhilarating debut, one that feels like a road trip you never want to end.
