SYMBOLS AND STORYTELLING: CREATE YOUR OWN ILLUSTRATED TAROT CARD
from £10
Maker's MarketChoose a creature, plant, fungi, or other being from the natural world that you feel drawn to, then transform it into your own illustrated tarot-style card.
Using drawing, colour, collage, and creative writing, you’ll build both the imagery and meaning behind your card – thinking about symbolism, personality, mood, and the kind of ‘message’ your card might carry. You might create something calm and grounding, strange and chaotic, protective, playful, mysterious or completely unexpected.
The session begins with a short period of visual research and idea gathering, followed by guided drawing and mark-making using pencils, markers, coloured pencils, oil pastels, and collage materials. Alongside the artwork, you’ll also write a short interpretation or reading for your card, giving it its own story and character.
This is a relaxed, imaginative workshop focused on experimentation and self-expression rather than technical drawing skill – a chance to build your own tiny world through image, symbolism, and storytelling.
If you love nature-inspired storytelling with a sprinkling of magic, there are a couple of other workshops this weekend that might float your boat: ‘FESTIVAL PAGES: START YOUR OWN JUNK JOURNAL’ by The Common Corner from11am-12pm on Sun 2nd August and ‘FIND YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL: CREATE YOUR OWN WEARABLE TOTEM’ by The Wolves from 1:30-3:00pm on Sun 2nd August.
Mengya (Mon) Li (they/them, she/her )is a London-based artist and facilitator working across ceramics, printmaking, and illustration. Their playful workshops explore storytelling, symbolism, mythology, and the natural world.
