A Place of Our Own : Six Spaces That Shaped Queer Women's Culture

Journalist and podcaster June Thomas explores home, community and belonging in this cultural history of queer women’s lives.

From the intimate darkness of the lesbian bar to the sweaty camaraderie of the softball field, through interview, archival research and memoir, we explore six iconic lesbian spaces of the last sixty years.

From rural commune to feminist bookshop, via sex toy boutique, we see identities defined and question how this fits with today’s more inclusive and yet more diffuse LGBTQ+ communities.
