The Mindful SpaceAn Evening of Nature Song & Story - Folk Choir
Come as you are. Bring your voice, however unsteady. This is an hour of communal singing led by Guy Hayward, co-founder of the British Pilgrimage Trust, who has spent a decade leading people through England’s landscapes singing songs.
We’ll move through songs drawn from the British folk tradition — songs of seasons and fields, of love lost in a garden, of old trees, of rivers. Guy will tell you where each song came from: the Somerset meadow where it was collected, the Romantic poet, the Welsh hillside where it was first sung as a lullaby.
No performance required. No prior experience needed. Song sheets provided. The only qualification is turning up.
Dr Guy Hayward is Director of the British Pilgrimage Trust, which he co-founded in 2014 to promote "bring your own beliefs" pilgrimage in Britain. Since 2016 he has led guided pilgrimages, weaving in group singing of nature, folk and sacred songs, and co-authored Britain's Pilgrim Places. He holds a Cambridge PhD on how singing forms community. Hayward also co-founded the Choral Evensong Trust with Rupert Sheldrake and is half of the comedy singing duo Bounder & Cad.
