CREATE AND CONNECT – DRAW AND PAINT A COLLABORATIVE FLORAL ARTWORK
from £18
Maker's MarketWhen you’ve finished setting up camp, BYO drinks and snacks down to this fun, naturally social and relaxing session, where you’ll let loose with mark-making and painting a collaborative artwork with some new festival friends.
A Creative Pause is a guided communal creative experience designed for people who don't consider themselves artists. Working with simple materials around a shared table, your facilitator Hannah creates the conditions for everyone to draw and paint at exactly the same level, trying something new together, with no pressure at all. It starts with structure and intention but soon flows into colour, experimentation and creative freedom.
You’ll use simple drawing exercises designed to remove notions of control and skill, encouraging everyone to work collaboratively, and at the same level. You’ll study your subject matter but have no pressure to finish up with a drawing that represents it. The whole point of this session is simply to make-marks, play and be totally absorbed, mindfully. You’ll pause for a momentary break, then return to the shared artwork to paint and colour in the shapes you’ve all made, allowing a flow of colour and relaxation to emerge. At the end, the collective will decide whether to cut up the communal artwork and take a piece home, or keep it whole.
It’s truly suitable for all ages and all skill levels.
Communal painting gives you the rare permission to reconnect with creativity and the joy of making, but with the extra special aspect of doing it alongside others. There’s intention and structure so that no one feels vulnerable or confused, but there’s also no pressure or any need to be ‘good’ at drawing or painting. You’ll leave feeling inspired, reconnected and relaxed.
Hannah Taylor-Matthews (she/her) is the founder of A Creative Pause, delivering creative workshops and coaching that connect people to themselves through painting, blending creative practice with thoughtful, reflective facilitation.
