Communal joy so potent the air crackles. God’s Jukebox s a symphonic happening. A ceremony disguised as a gig.
At heart, it’s deceptively simple: the public submit song suggestions with poignant personal stories: why the song matters to them. How the music has soundtracked their life. From these dedications, we choose the most powerful, funny, beautiful stories, and transform them into brand-new orchestral re-imaginings, tailored to an ensemble of surprise guest vocalists.
Those for whom the songs are dedicated are often are blissfully unprepared. Over seven years, we have soundtracked proposals, bereavements, new lives and old friendships.
Your house band - The Wilderness Orchestra - was founded in 2013. Our shows have included musical celebrations of the Oceans, the Cosmos, Film Music, Big Band, Radiohead, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Disney, and performances that respond to the climate and ecological emergency. Our repertoire now extends to over two-hundred pieces, many of them original arrangements.
“Quite simply one of the most uniting moments of any festival I've been to.” — Mark Kermode
“I've never been to a concert where the crowd will be crying tears of joy, sadness and laughter - all in the space of 20 minutes. By far one of my favourite performances I have ever been part of.” — Jack Shwab
